When the enlightened Europeans decided to divorce any knowledge coming from scripture, they entered into a new ‘dark age’ which they thought they are leaving from.
As a result, the contemporary western mind believe in a set of conjectures about first human communities. Their kids are forced to grow up with these beliefs that were rooted in Darwin’s evolution theory.
Kids learn that their ancestors were apes and developed into early human beings having no cloth, does not know how to communicate using languages, used to hunt, and then learned how to cultivate land, had no idea about a God, does not know what to do with their dead bodies, etc.
These accumulated dosage of inferior heritage ought to impact negatively in the mindset of a child who finds it very shameful to be related to apes.
Contrast this with the real Enlightened story we get from the Quran on the first Human couple, Adam and Eve and the first story of their children on earth.
In what follows, I will attempt to give a quick assorted thoughts for you to follow up further on your own on the story of Adam.
Allah Himself created Adam by His two hands, and breathed into him His soul, and commanded the Angels to prostrate to him as a symbol of respect and superiority
Read verses 38: 71 - 75
[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay.
So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."
So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely.
Except Iblees; he was arrogant and became among the disbelievers.
[ Allah ] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?"
Adam and his offspring were worshippers of one God, they supplicated to Allah, sought His forgiveness, repented and feared Allah
So, thinking early man was searching for a god and totems and shamans are all bullshit! It certainly was not with Adam, however, these forms may have started long time after Adam when first Shirk (polytheism) started on earth.
Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful. [2:37]
Adam was told the names of everything
So, this highly sophisticated linguistic tool to assign a name to an object was a gift of Allah to Adam, much more valuable than discovery of fire!
And He taught Adam the names - all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, "Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful." [2:31]
Dress to cover private parts was yet another gift of Allah to Adam and his offspring
O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness - that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember. [7:26]
The Story of the two sons of Adam
This is a very interesting story that sheds some light on our ancestors first civilization and the level of complexity and sophistication they enjoyed. A complete contrast with what the humanist European enlightened thinker came up with!
Let me just cite the plain story narrated in 5:27-31
And recite to them the story of Adam's two sons, in truth, when they both offered a sacrifice [to Allah ], and it was accepted from one of them but was not accepted from the other. Said [the latter], "I will surely kill you." Said [the former], "Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].
If you should raise your hand against me to kill me - I shall not raise my hand against you to kill you. Indeed, I fear Allah , Lord of the worlds.
Indeed I want you to obtain [thereby] my sin and your sin so you will be among the companions of the Fire. And that is the recompense of wrongdoers."
And his soul permitted to him the murder of his brother, so he killed him and became among the losers.
Then Allah sent a crow searching in the ground to show him how to hide the disgrace of his brother. He said, "O woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the body of my brother?" And he became of the regretful.
Lots and lots can be deduced from this story, some are just listed without much comments.
- Both herding animals and agriculture was practiced by sons of Adam. The two sacrifice offered were: sheep by the elder son and cultivated plants by the other.
- Sophisticated human vice including jealousy, envy and murder was developed very early. However, shirk and associating deity with Allah was much later invention around 10 centuries later!
- The first murder story and imitating crow to bury dead corpses. The contemporary western enlightenment scholars maintain that early man learned and discovered so many things imitating other animals. The is an example from Quran that confirms this imitation. However, this story shows that burial of corpses was practiced from the first human dead body and did not evolve over a long time.
- They were well aware of the fundamentals of reward and punishment in paradise and hell-fire after the day of judgment. Observe the advice and statements of the second son saying: “"Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].”, “Indeed, I fear Allah , Lord of the worlds.”, “..among the companions of the Fire”.
In summary, secularism deprived mankind a lot of knowledge and took western civilization from one darkness of pagan-turned-Christian to another darkness of evolutionary explanation of everything including the story of early human communities. Between these two darkness, the Quran continues to illuminate anyone who is willing to be Enlightened.
A final note from the Quran:
And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference. [17:70]
